Very disappointing coming from osgood_.
I have done quite a bit of research into Responsive Web Design.

DW Fluid Grids works that way and it's not intuitive to most DW users who resort to using Fluid Grids as most are amateurs. Adobes attitude is we'll just confuse them even more, not a great help.
True, although very harshly put.

My personal advice is to create desktop first (since your going to be primarily creating the site on a desktop computer) then tablet and finally smartphone (who really cares what the site looks like on smart phone, its simply an option to provide some information, usually limited information at that). Another dumb statement from the 'experts' - 'design for mobile first then tablet and finally desktop'.
Although I used to be of the same mind, I have come back from my thoughts and now design for smart phones first. I see more and more people using their smart phone and other mobile devices to surf the net. Some have even confessed to not owning/using a desktop computer. Whether we like it or not, it is the future.

It's a funny old World only a few years ago everyone was shouting from the rooftops about stream-lining their coding NOW its OK to use as much as you want. Take what these so called experts say with a pinch of salt. (unfortunately a great precentage don't know their asss from their elbow)
To be honest, it is hard to live without an asss as it is without an elbow; I value both. To prove my point, I checked the performance of the page that was suggested in the video HTML5 Responsive Website - Start to Finish - YouTube and compared that to a page that I am working on now, a page made with Bootstrap and mobile first. These are the results:

I think that we can conclude that images are the biggest bottleneck in the first example and that there is no sign of bloating in the second example.
