How do I get rid of the pale yellow highlighting behind imported text?

I'm working on a project for school and my teacher emailed me a jpeg and a word document with text for a page layout. I downloaded them and then uploaded both onto a new indesign cc document, and the text came out looking like this:

I have openoffice, not word... is that the problem? How do I get rid of the yellow?
