This seems like such a basic question but all the answers I can find either ignore the basic premise or are years (and versions) out of date.
Simple form: I have a website and want to put updated files to the Test location until they're ready, then put them to the live Remote location. Pretty standard task flow. What is the best, easiest and most "organic" way to do this?
Right now, I have two server definitions, which are identical except that one points to the root of the site host ("remote/live") and one points to a /TEST/ subdirectory system off the host root. The test one is permanently checked "test." The remote one is either checked "remote" or unchecked. If remote is checked, all puts go to the live site. Unchecked, puts go to the test site.
Is this the only way to direct uploads?
Is there no simpler and more direct UI toggle for choosing test/live? We have to go into the server management menu to switch?
And what would be the use of checking both test and live on the same server - that is, if I'm using the only method for choosing the destination, wouldn't it be more sensible to make it a toggle between the two, instead of none/one/both?
I feel like I'm really missing something here...
