I meant to ask what operating system you are using? Could you also check your Preferences > Performance tab. Is GPU acceleration checked? If so is the Advance set to advanced or basic? The black screen sounds very video card driver related, but I am not sure how that would have been broken by Photoshop crashing. I imagine it could break with and OS crash though.
Try turning GPU acceleration off completely. If fixes the black screen, update your video card driver again, from the card maker's web site.
