Creative Cloud App 'Download Error' among other problems with AECC

The whole issue started about 5 hours ago when I was simply trying to install AECC on my 10.9 MacBook Retina.

AE says "You can’t use this version of the application “Adobe After Effects CC” with this version of OS X. You have 'Adobe After Effects CC 12.0". After googling the issue, I soon realised I must download an update patch 12.2. So, I did, but when I go to update to 12.2, I get a warning "Updates could not be applied." with some bollocks about your Administrator did not allow it. Yes, I was connected to the Internet. Yes, I did a restart. Yes, I was logged in as Administrator. Yes, my computer was turned on. I've even tried the whole, 'Rename OOBE and AAMUpdater folders in Library as suggested in a lot of posts - with not joy. I've also tried replacing the 'UpdaterCore' file within OOBE folders to try and update AECC to 12.2. This does not work.

Now, not only is AECC not working, but my fricken Creative Cloud App window says "Download Error"

What a disapointment that I have now waster almost 5 hours of production time trying to solve this riddle - and now I am completely stuffed. Not the type of problems you'd expect from a 'reputable' company such as Adobe, especially when we pay good money to have this software.

Please show me the light - I dont want to resort to using iMovie.
