Why is Flash using over a Gigabyte of RAM?

It's been doing this forever, and I just kept ignoring it, cause I just didn't care enough.

Now though, it's annoying.

Easy example: Load up articles and videos from www.cracked.com, nothing major, just open say the top 5 or 6 new things that were posted within the last day or so.

Flash goes NUTS, ends up using over a gig of RAM, and make everything stutter, videos don't buffer correctly, I can't even scroll without skipping ahead half a page, instead of a couple lines.

Only way around this, is to either clo0se the browser and reopen it, which is annoying to say the least. Or, to open the Task Manager and end the process through there. Which of course causes everything from the videos to the ads crash, and I need to reload the page anyway.

So, uh, why? and How do i stop it? There's no reason Flash should be not only using, but holding onto over a gig of RAM... it doesn't take that much to load a silly video.

It started doing this around the time Flash Player 10 was released, I believe, and I'm using Firefox.
